I rode the century route on day one of the Bike MS Pedal to the Point, from Middleburg Heights to Sandusky, Ohio. I put together this video to commemorate the event; enjoy!
S24O Bike Camping Trip

This Sub 24-Hour Overnight took Brent and I on the usual route from Peninsula to West Branch State Park, outside of Ravenna, with a stop for supplies at the Acme Fresh Market in Hudson, and a breakfast stop the next morning a the Perkins of Hudson.
Brent rode his ’09 Salsa Fargo, and I rode my ’07 Raleigh XXIX, which is a singlespeed mountain bike, but at this time is converted to a Fargo-like touring bike. You can read more details about this conversion here.
OBF Bill Introduction Tuesday

Senator Teresa Fedor of Toledo will introduce a bill on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 to modify Ohio revised code 4511.27(A) to require that motorists maintain a three-foot minimum clearance when passing bicycles.
Senators Fedor and Mark Wagoner and Ohio Bicycle Federation Chair Chuck Smith will announce the bill’s introduction during an 11:30 AM Tuesday press conference on the West Lawn of the State House in Columbus.
The bill is one of eight Ohio Bicycle Federation proposals to improve Ohio cycling given to Senator Fedor by Smith during a May 15-17 bicycle tour from Toledo to Columbus.

Training Ride and Cocktails

My BikeMS Pedal to the Point team, Patti’s Paladins, has get-togethers for training rides throughout the season, which often involve either breakfast before the ride, or cocktails afterward. This cocktail ride was a short jaunt through the Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights area. I was a show-off and rode my beater singlespeed.
Mountain Biking in the Cleveland Metroparks

Tonight I attended a monthly meeting of the Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA), held at the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation in the Cleveland Metroparks. This park is the home to the recently-completed first legal singletrack mountain bike trail in the Metroparks system. A group ride followed the meeting, which I’ve documented in this video:
Dayton streets to become more bike-friendly

Ken McCall of the Dayton Daily News reports that bids are to go out this week for a street redesign project in downtown Dayton. Part of the project is creating bike lanes, and painting “sharrows” on other streets. Full story…

The latest bike overnight trip led Brent and I to the usual destination, West Branch State Park, outside of Ravenna. Brent rode his Surly Big Dummy, and I rode my Xtracycle. We stopped for breakfast on the return ride the next morning at Perkins in Hudson.

Don't look at the weather forecast

That’s my bike commuting tip of the day. Yesterday morning it was warm and pleasant, with temperatures in the low to mid-60’s. As I prepared for my ride to work, I checked the weather forecast, and it called for cooler and rain as the day progressed. I decided to go ahead and ride anyway, and packed up my rain gear to prepare for the worst.
It rained on and off throughout the day, but I got lucky during the window of my ride home time. There were dry skies, and a light, warm breeze.
So, don’t check the weather forecast. Just be prepared for any conditions, don’t give yourself additional excuses, and don’t miss out on unexpectedly great rides.
